Now the colder days and nights are upon us the pests are looking for somewhere warm and dry to spend the winter days. So now is the time to be on the lookout for pests making a home in your attic, garage or shed. Not all are a pest – I had two hedgehogs hibernate in my chicken house a couple of years ago!
A serious risk from rats or mice in the attic is that they can chew on electric cables and cause a fire, but even less serious issues are still undesirable as they can quickly gnaw away it all sorts of things, make a mess, bring other pests and even find your vegetables being stored in the garden shed.
So it would be wise to have a bait box already in position to nip the problem in the bud before it becomes a major problem.
Also be on the lookout for Wasps, they have had a good long season this year and were still flying around in November but the hibernating queens can now be found in their little grey nest balls hanging from the ceiling in attics or sheds and a quick squash will stop problems next summer.
